Auckland Ferry Terminal
The old Auckland Ferry Terminal building on Quay Street on the waterfront dates from 1912. A more modern building now serves as the hub for ferry transport in and out of the city.

History
The old ferry building was constructed at considerable cost out of brick, granite, and sandstone. It was designed by architect Alex Wiseman and took 3 years to build. The structure has been designated a Category I building with Heritage New Zealand. Nowadays, the building houses a variety of shops and cafes with the modern building handling day-to-day ferry operations.

Ferries depart for a variety of destinations from Auckland Ferry Terminal (aka Downtown Ferry Terminal or Ferry Building). There are sailings to Bayswater, Beach Haven, Birkenhead, Coromandel, Devonport, Gulf Harbour, Half Moon Bay, Northcote Point, Orapiu, Port Fitzroy, Motutapu, Rakino Island in the Hauraki Gulf, Rotoroa Island, Stanley Island and Tryphena Wharf on Great Barrier Island.

Within easy walking distance of the ferry terminal is Britomart Transport Centre which contains Britomart Train Station in the former Edwardian post office building and a bus station. The train station is a terminus for four suburban lines - the Eastern Line to Manukau, the Onehunga Line to Onehunga, the Southern Line to Pukekohe, and the Western Line to Swanson. From the nearby Customs Street stop, the Skybus runs out to Auckland Airport.
The Hilton Auckland is right on Princes Wharf with great views out to sea.
