Cathedral Cove (Te Whanganui-A-Hei)
Cathedral Cove Te Whanganui-A-Hei - the limestone rock arch separates two white, sandy beaches |
Cathedral Cove (Te Whanganui-A-Hei) is a stunning beach that includes a natural arch on the Coromandel coast in the North Island of New Zealand.
There is a superb view of the pumice rock known as 'Te Hoho' in the clear waters beyond.
The beach and nearby Hahei resort are both part of the stunning Te Whanganui a Hei Marine Reserve.
Boat tours, kayaking trips, and diving and snorkeling tours can all be booked in Hahei.

Access - Getting There
The beach itself can only be reached on foot or by boat. A water taxi shuttles out to the cove from Hahei Beach in season. The journey takes only about 10 minutes.
The track to the beach starts at the northern end of Hahei at the top of Grange Road. It takes about 45 minutes to one hour to walk from the top car park in Hahei to the beach.
8 km south of Hahei Beach is Hot Water Beach where natural hot water springs rise up through the sand.
From Auckland, Hahei and Cathedral Cove (Te Whanganui-A-Hei) is about 2 hours and 20 minutes by car on State Highways 1 and 25. There are also local buses from Ferry Landing across Mercury Bay from Whitianga.
Hahei Beach is also pretty special and it is here that you will find accommodation. Hahei Village is the place to go to eat and drink. There are craft breweries, wine bars, and an assortment of restaurants to choose from. The Church Bistro at 87 Beach Road comes well recommended. It's a wooden, former Methodist church from Taumarunui.
